Come with M.E. on a journey: Update on Ivabradine for POTs (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome)
- Condition
- ME/CFS
- At worst
- Moderate (mostly housebound)
- Ill for
- 5 years
- Published
- Nov 2014
Summary
Ivabradine, dose not stated, used for several months by the time of this update; she had been ill with POTS-type symptoms since August 2009, about 5 years by this post, with moderate functional limitation. Initial side effects of malaise and heaviness resolved, and she gained better resting heart-rate control and less orthostatic heart-rate spiking on standing. She became able to do bobbing yoga movements, such as sun salutations, that she could not manage before ivabradine. She explicitly notes that any relapse causes her to lose the drug's benefits, and that gains plateau without complementary physical therapy, so the effect is conditional and reversible rather than a lasting cure.
