My Recovery from Long COVID PEM Part 2: Microclots
- Condition
- Long COVID
- At worst
- Severe (mostly bedbound)
- Ill for
- 3 years
- Published
- Feb 2026
Summary
Christy was prescribed the anticoagulant apixaban and the antiplatelet clopidogrel in June 2023 (omitting the aspirin normally used in triple therapy due to stomach sensitivity), continuing for 4 to 5 months after microclots and hyperactivated platelets were confirmed by Mount Sinai testing in April 2023. She had become severely ill after a mild COVID infection in February 2023, developing POTS so severe she couldn't stay upright more than 30 seconds, plus lung symptoms that blocked normal breathing. On the anticoagulants her POTS resolved so she could sit up as long as she wanted, her lung symptoms faded, and her PEM threshold rose, and she had stabilized by October 2023. She then tapered off the medications and was able to quit entirely a few months later without regressing, remaining improved through a subsequent antiviral protocol and, per the post, still improved as of its most recent update.
