Summary

Followed a 10-point Mayo Clinic-informed protocol: a TruVaga vagus-nerve-stimulation device for 2 minutes three times a day, guanfacine at 0.5mg twice daily (with room to increase to 1mg twice daily), L-arginine 2000mg twice daily, vitamin C 500mg twice daily, four capsules a day of Metagenics fish oil, NAC 600mg once daily, a cup of kefir yogurt daily, a low-inflammation diet, a strict no-exercise-beyond-walking rule until PEM resolved, and optionally low-dose naltrexone after 12 weeks, combined with pacing, Yoga Nidra, meditation and the Gupta Brain Retraining program. She had worsening long COVID across infections in 2020, 2022 and 2023, reaching a point in summer 2023 where she was too weak to care for herself and needed two months of parental care, and by December 2023 described fatigue "like wearing a lead bodysuit." She has since improved enough to teach workshops, take gentle bike rides, weight-train and go on mountain walks, which she frames against Mayo Clinic data showing most patients on the protocol recover 60-70% of pre-COVID activity, with 10% healing completely. She notes setbacks still occur and says she manages them using the same tools, especially the Gupta program, meaning the improvement requires continued active management rather than being a one-time fix.
