Summary
After 11 years of illness severe enough to force retirement from his healthcare career and keep him in bed roughly half the time, he took Valcyte titrated from 225mg to 900mg/day over 2.5 months plus colchicine 9mg/day, then added doxycycline 100mg twice daily for 4 months once he plateaued. He reports skiing again "without crashing," more good days, and - for the first time in 11 years - "episodes where I feel completely normal," though he still has some bad days so calls it substantial, not full, recovery. He later stopped all three drugs after his liver enzymes rose but says he "held on to my gains" afterward.
