Summary
Equilibrant, a supplement combining shiitake mushroom with selenium, astragalus, sophora flavescens, olive leaf and licorice, was taken daily for over a year, working up to six pills a day. They had a severe bacterial infection that nearly killed them, followed by a suspected viral illness, leaving them with gastroparesis, heart arrhythmias, chronic headaches and only four safe foods; illness duration before starting is not stated. After an initial herx reaction, they improved steadily over about a month, calling it a miracle that let them work out hard and walk around all day, essentially clearing their CFS symptoms while on it. They reported relapsing every time they ran out of pills or stopped taking it, with symptoms worsening within days. Ongoing daily use therefore appears necessary to sustain the benefit, and no account of successfully discontinuing it is given.
